A couple of Splitcoast Challenges……
Hi ya!
WOW 2 days since I was on here, and I am still wondering where those days went! I have been busy with having guests over the past 2 days, and preparing from Elijah’s birthday (today) so yeah things have been busy. I did get to stamp on Sunday night though and catch up on some challenges etc…..
So like I have mentioned previously I hope to do more of the Splitcoast Challenges each week, and well I managed two from last week, the colour and the sketch
The colour challenge, was just that…….. A CHALLENGE! You know why??? Because it had that revolting Summer Sun in there!!! Yikes!
So the colours where, Kraft, Riding hood red, Summer sun, and Optional black. Hooley Dooley, what to do with those colours. But I was determined to have a go at it.
Here is what I came up with:
I had to paint this little guy before he is gone, because he is on the retirement list!!! I was trying to create a Robin red-breast, but don’t know if I succeeded too well
I have used Kraft for the base and stamped it with the Sanded background stamp with Sahara sand ink. The strip is Riding hood red cardstock with a very thin strip of the Summer sun on the side. I rolled it with the Watercolour vine jumbo roller, and distressed the edges. Then I added the Black grosgrain ribbon with some pewter Hodegepodege Hardware.
I have then stamped up my birdie, with Stazon ink, onto watercolour paper, and painted him with my Aquapainter, and stamp pads. I stamped the word hope from the little background stamp from the set onto Riding hood red cardstock and cut the letters out. Lastly I sptitzed with my spritzer tool, and added the two black brads at the bottom onto some 1/8″ cirlce punches of Riding hood red cardstock.
So that is the colour challenge, and here was the Sketch for this week:
And my card:
I LOVE this stamp set, and will be very sad to see it go! I have used 5 strips of the Spring Fling DSP paper packs, which are 1 inch wide. I have then paper pierced the outer perimeter.
I have then stamped the main stamp with Stazon ink and coloured the inside of the letter with my Regal rose Stampin’ write marker and then I blinged it up dazzling diamonds glitter. I paper pierced the body suit with the pink spotty paper. Again I have scallop edge punch the bottom of the white cardstock. Lastly I added some pink taffeta ribbon tied off at the side.
So there you have the challenges that I managed for this week.
Take care!

I don’t know that I’d call Summer Sun “REVOLTING” but it’s not my favourite colour….better get used to it though it’s a predominant colour in these Good Morning Sunshine papers, I love them!!!!
Hi Keesh! Your 1st card is lovely and you have used Summer Sun perfectly in this card! Your colouring is lovely too!
The second card is great as well - those colours are so nice aren’t they!
I printed out that sketch ages ago - have it glued in my visual arts diary but thats as far as I went! lol
Hey, great chatting to you today!!
Luv Dot!
I can see the summer sun on there… JUST!!
Hi Keesh,
Your birdy card made me laugh- could you have used LESS Summer Sun?
It looks great though!
Funny about Summer Sun, I was unpacking an order today and pulled out a pack of Summer Sun….I thought who would order that? Well, that person was me and I’d done so because of our new DSP…… Seems it may be a challenge for me too! I really love both of these cards, TFS. Bec.
Hehe you have used the summer sun rather sparingly!!
Great job on the challenges.
I was never too keen on Summer Sun myself since I don’t love bright yellows, but I have seen some very nice color combos using it lately (in our new Design papers, among other things) so I am slowly warming up to it. I actually finished a pack while working on a swap last week. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the pack was empty, I just never thought I would see the day!
I think you have used the color combo beautifully. I guess that’s what challenges are for, to push us forward. (And it’s funny how clients often will pick up that one card you’re not too sure about and be all complimentary about it! I guess you need to have a variety of cards to appeal to everyone…)
Great job on both challenges!
Cindy
Love the watercoloring–very beautiful! I did some watercoloring the other night and it reminded me how much I love it.
Thanks for sharing!
Oh, I just love that hint of yellow Keesh! Both are great cards. TFS
