Inkspirations Colour Challenge # 4
Hi Ya!
Me again, I have the challenge all ready to upload, but first I want to tell you about the funny shannanigans that happened in my house today! - Get ready for a laugh!
I was busy cleaning this morning and just finished mopping the floor….(yes i do clean!) Anyway I had Janaya, my 3 year old who is still at home, set up in the lounge with a pile of books to read so she wouldn’t come out and wander all over the wet floor.
So I finished the mopping and headed up stairs to do a couple of things……….and 5 minutes later, i hear a death hurtling scream………
” SNAKE, SNAKE, MUMMY SNAKE!”
Of course my heart just about stopped right there and then! We live on 5 acres in a rural area, and have had a snake or two around the place. Almost all snakes in Australia are poisonous, and I clearly remember the one I came accross on our back veradah only 2 years ago, so the idea that a snake was in the house is possible!
I raced half way down the stairs and found Janaya standing on top of the coffee table pointing to the bottom of the stairs, which is what I was standing on, and I see the tail! YIKES, I am already freaked out! THere is no way I can get to Jaye, because I am on the stairs and she is on the other side of the room and the supposedly snake is in between us. So I have a good look and this is who I found………
This is an Australian Skink…….which is a type of goanna!
Mr skink heard me jumping on the bottom step so he decided to ski-daddle under the sofa! Would you believe my luck…..I still had my Wonderful extendable handle, Enjo mop right near the stairs from before! What a great piece of protection that provided. So I managed to get Jaye and have my extended mop in the other hand……I tell ya I carried that thing around for a while incase Mr Skink decided to spring out on me!
So I got Jaye into bed for her afternoon sleep, and left open the french doors that lead onto the front verandah. Seems Mr skink needed some fresh air, because about an hour later he made his way back outside and that is were I managed to get a snap shot of him. I know they are not dangerous, but they are creepy…….just look at it…..YUK!
Actually that is the 4th goanna we have had inside this summer……..if only the kids would close the back door, I think I could prevent this from happening. The last skink (probably Mrs skink) came in about 4 weeks ago and wandered all over the house! She kept dissappearing, under the fridge, behind the boys wardrobe, under the sofas,…..this went on all day. Of course the boys had fun trying to catch the thing. Last of all it climbed in under the dishwasher……I kid you not! We never saw it again, but the following moring as I was making toast for the kids, I could hear some scratching in the back of the appliance cupboard…….oh it is giving me the eebie jeebies just thinking about it. So after all that Mrs Skink was never seen again. So Maybe, just maybe Mr Skink was on the hunt for his long lost missus, that went into the big white house never to be seen again………he must be a bit of a chicken skink cus it has taken him 4 weeks to come a lookin for her!
Oh dear I am waffling on here! Sorry! Anyway I hope you have had a little chuckle about my unwelcome reptiles today and my choice of protection……. the good ol’ MOP! (see cleaning does come in handy now and then!) Oh and it is always a relief to know that the little darling Janaya knows what to do if and when she comes accross a SNAKE!
Righty now onto the challenge, which is what I am sure you came here for!
This week we are working on colour again! Last Colour challenge I gave you all a rather masculine colours scheme, so this time I have prettied it up for you and chosen very femenine theme. Here are your colours:
Here are my samples for you:
First I made this card with the Bodacious Bouquet stamp set, which I haven’t used for quite a while!
For this card I have used the Bodaicous jumbo roller and the Bodacious Bouquet stamp set. I have rock and rolled the flower, and added some dazzling diamonds glitter, and rose red brads in the centre. I have scalloped edge punched the bottom of the Sage shadow, and Whisper white cardstock to get the frilled edge. I have used some wide Regal rose grosgrain ribbon as well.
I have then made a long card using the Blossoms Abound stamp set. I stamped the Fine lace background stamp on the Regal rose cardstock base and then mounted a square of Sage shadow cardstock that I stamped with the Linen background. I also added some glitter to the blossoms, and some rhiestone brads, and wide Regal rose grosgrain ribbon.
Finally I made a Scrap page:
The photo really hasn’t come out well for this as it is really pretty and sparkly IRL…. I have rolled the base Regal rose cardstock with the Flitting by jumbo wheel with Rose red ink. I have then used my white gel pen on the inside of the wings of each butterfly, lastly I added glitter to each of the butterflies. I wish it showed up better!
I have mounted the photo of Janaya, which isn’t a top picture, but still cute in Sage, and Rose red cardstock creating some faux stitching with my white gel pen again. I added the word sweet from the Sweet shapes stamp set. Lastly i stamped the big Butterflies from the Bold Butterfly stamp set with Regal rose and Rose red stamp pads, then cut them out and mounted them with dimensionals. I have also added glitter to them as well!
One thing you will notice is that I have used 3 stamp sets I haven’t played with for some time! When a new mini catty comes out, you tend to over-do those sets because they are only around for a short time!
I have been thinking about the upcoming catalog and dreaming about what will be going, and what will be new…….it is such an exciting time of year, with the release of a new catalog!
Anyway I thought I would try to play with stamps I haven’t touched in a while, and I have to say I had heaps of fun! Maybe you could think about doing the same as well, when you make your challenge card!
So what to play along? - Here are some guidlines…..
1. Make your project (s) using only the colours in the Colour Challenge image.
2. Upload your project to your blog/ website, and or a public viewing forum like Splitcoast stampers. Please state where the challenge has come from, with a link back to this post, so others can play along etc….
3. Come back here and add your name into the Mr Linky, with the correct link to your direct creation
You have until 11:59pm on Thursday 12th February to have your projects linked.
Enjoy and have fun! I look forward to seeing your creations!

so I take it you dont have the All Aboriginal set?? that poor skink was probably more scared of you than you of them!
I love these colours and I want to make a few more of the card on my blog today so might do one in these colours.
Have a good weekend hon and try to keep cool …….. and away from skinks!
Well did I have a good chuckle - now i do have a healthy aversion to snakes - lovely big brown or tiger ones where I grew up - you know the 6ft variety but lizards - - well have a few stories about them but mainly used to pat them grin.
Ok down to business still chuckling hehe (at you not at miss 3) love the challenge and your samples typical no SU supplies yet but I am enjoying watching what everyone comes up with.
Your story made me laugh out load. I think I screamed like your beautiful little girl when I found a bat UNDER my computer keyboard a couple years ago. Had I had my wits about me, I would have closed my office door. But no, I ran out screaming and the bat proceeded to fly throughout the house. We…I mean, my husband…eventually got him out, but to this day, bats freak me out!
Thanks for sharing more of your beautiful creations.
oops, I meant “Laugh out LOUD”!!!
It’s a wonder Jaye went to bed for a sleep after that!! We had a similar situation once when we were camping- My daughter STILL
(18years later!) loathes anything remotely resembling a goanna!!! btw aren’t we up to challenge #5 now ? (check your title)
HI Keesh,
I loved the story about the skink - he was a bigun wasn’t he. I was very excited about the honourable mention - I went to tell my hubby straight away. He is still in bed - mind you it is only 7am in the morning. Will do my best to do the challenge - I love the colours, but the next few days are crazy - as we have the munchkins birthday party this Sunday, and lots of granparents visiting, then back to work.
Love Kim
PS: I don’t think your mojo ever left;)
PPS: B is for Badelt
PPPS: I made the tags using the slit punch to round the ends and a corner of the tag punch to get the little flag ends.
That’s hilarious! I abhor most reptiles, particularly frogs/toads and lizards! Over winter we had two sneak in between the screen door and the front door (probably to stay warm). When we open the door to exit, it freaks and wriggles INSIDE, we freak (both Mum and myself), and chaos ensues. Just thinking about it makes my skin crawl!!
Anyway, love the card! I must try and participate in this one.
Don’t you hate it when the kids scream about somethng and YOU have to be the strong one and deal with it!!!!! Where are the hubby’s when you need them - doesn’t matter if they’re as scared - I tell my hubby it’s HIS job!!! LOL
Love the challenge colours - hope to sneak off later and give it a go!
hahahah Keesh you are too funny! And lukily for the mop! Speaking of mop i really should mop my floors today hmmmm. These colours look great together, i have never used them together either!!! Well its 44 here today so hopefully i can find some mojo in the heat to play along today! Hope you have a great weekend and make sure those kids keep the door shut!!
So glad it was only a skink. Isn’t the feeling of not being able to get to your child horrid! Last summer we had a large red bellied black snake at the back door - I was stuck inside, while my precious 2yo sat outside about 2 feet away from it *shudder*
Love your challenge this week - will definately be giving those colours a workout this week
Too funny about the skink - they are friendly things! We have a funny story about them when we lived up the road from you. Will have to tell you oneday!!
Love the colours and can’t wait to have a go. I’ve got a photo of me and Caden, so I might use these colours and make a girly page for once. Enjoy your weekend. x
Finally got the chance to play along again! Enjoy!
Oh, by the way, thank your lucky stars it was a skink and not a big goanna! They can run and claw like crazy!
Hi Keesha. Thanks for the fab colour challenge. This is my first one with you so I hope you like what I have made. My link to my two cards and a scrapbook page is here…

Hi Keesh..
I love your story… my 4yr old does the same thing mistaking lizards for snakes… Always get’s my heart pumping when she yells out… Anyway I made a card this week, loved the colours but I think my mojo is still on holidays… dam thing…
Hope your having a good week and thanks for the challenge…
Tracy
Oh my gosh, would you look at that creature!! You had that in the house?!? I’m usually good about not freaking out when things like that happen, but I do look very carefully before stepping anywhere for the rest of the day afterwards, though…
Never had anything other than yucky insects in the house, but we did have one snake sneak up in the hood of the car one summer we were on vacation. It crawled in while we were at the restaurant to try and get some shade from the sun and we discovered the little crawler while we were on the highway and it showed its ugly head in the front window! Let me tell ya, you keep wondering if there is any open conduct that leads to the inside of the car and if so, if the snake will fall right on your feet while you are driving! My Mom was at the wheel and thankfully, she kept her cool. We took the first exit, stopped at a garage and the guys tried to pry the snake off of the wipers, where it was wrapped. Funny story in retrospect. Not so much when you’re in the middle of it. ;D
